What is the Land Lecture?

WORAN held its first Annual Networking Event in 2019, just prior to the pandemic. The event has now been renamed the WORAN Land Lecture, in honour of Professor Ailsa Land, pioneer of branch-and-bound and computational OR, role model and mentor.

Join Us for the Online Land Lecture Event on Ada Lovelace Day

We are excited to invite you to the online Land Lecture event in celebration of Ada Lovelace Day. This year, we are privileged to host Dervilla Mitchell CBE, FREng, FIEI, as our distinguished Land Lecturer.

Dervilla Mitchell brings an impressive array of experiences to the table. She recently stepped down as joint deputy chair of the renowned Arup Engineering Group, where she played a pivotal role in fostering a high proportion of female engineers within the company. Dervilla's remarkable career includes leading the design management for Heathrow Terminal 5 and contributing to the London 2012 Olympic Village, the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, and various other prestigious engineering projects.

In addition to her project achievements, Dervilla has served on the Prime Minister's Council for Science and Technology, advocating for the integration of computational modelling in various sectors. Currently, she chairs the Royal Academy of Engineering's decarbonisation working group. Her longstanding commitment to engineering excellence and her role as an exceptional role model in the field have earned her widespread recognition.
